A crying warrior

Tony started walking now. Six steps was the record up to now. With an improved mobility, Tony was more capable of defending his rights. Once, Ray was trying to take Thomas train away from Tony. Tony certainly wouldn't let it go. Here came a memorable moment. Tony, who is barely walkable, held the end of the train. Ray was pulling train head. The poor Thomas train was pushed from one end of the house to the other end of house, then stopped. Tony cried like a warrior all the way but just wouldn't let it go. Well done, boy!

Ray flips good burger.

Ray likes to flip burger and sells it to people. To me, he even can give the burger for free.

A rainy fall in Chengdu

It is quite a trip considering I am only ten month old and Ray is three. We made it anyway.
It rained a lot in Chengdu this fall. This certainly surprised dad as dad's blurry memory fooled himself. What can you expect that he hasn't had a fall in Chengdu for fifteen years?
Dad has never broken any digital camera even he took a lot of shots in the pool. This trip transformed him into a digital camera killer. He lost one in a Taxi before he put his 190 pounds weight on the other. Ray was partially responsible for the second accident as he was the root cause to make dad fall. Digital camera is cheap these days anyway. That is how dad comfort himself. It might be a good time to upgrade digital camera. Point and shot is out of date anyway. Oh, it is Thanksgiving.
What about these pictures we took in forbiddern city? What about the pictures we took in Xingjiang? Cool picture sitting on the back of a camel? Well, at that time, the only thing dad can do is closing his eyes and pretending his heart really hurts.
This picture in King Jian Wang's Tomb is a make-up shot after the camera was lost. What is good about it is that it is next door to Grandma's home. Look at us, it seems that everyone is comfortable except dad. Since then, he was trying his best to stay away from digtal camera. Now he really understood how the actor of 'the worst week' felt.

Grandpa's graveyard

Ray and I attended Grandpa's funeral ceremony. I never got a chance to meet him, though he did see my birth picture before he passed away. Ray had some good time with him. He is luckier than me.

three musketeer

Aaron stayed with us for two weeks as aunt went back to China for grandpa's funeral. My trip had to be delayed for getting my passport and visa. Houston Chinese embassy is still closed as Ike cut off the electricity supply.

An interesting oberservation of dad. When George (a neighbor boy at Aaron's age) is around, Ray is the guy left out by Aaron and tries his best to join in. When Aaron, Ray and Tony are together, Tony is the one blocked out of the built little castle imagined as an enemy, even though Tony is completely capable of crawling in through the little gate(actually it is easier for Tony to get in). When Aaron is not around, two brothers play well as the best buddies. It is always true that the powerful ones get together. They like to deal with each other and know how to deal with each other. Nations are like kids in this way. You rarely see United States and Fiji get into the same news except golf. Political economy explains this purely by economic interests. Is it true that people show ceratin characteristics both as a group and as an individual other than economic interest?

OK, dad will let Tony or Ray figure this out.

Nine month check-up

Weight, 21'8", between 50~75% percentile
Height, 30'10", higher than 95% percentile
Just as Doctor said, I am a tall and lean dude.
By the way, when Ray was ten months old, he weighed like 26~27 pounds with pretty much the same height. Mom and dad couldn't figure out how that much meat could be added on such a little body. Ray just did it! OK, you are big brother.
We are planning going back to China soon. My chinese name finally settled down with more rejections than infant powder milks nowadays. 阳畅历. Many heavy weights at family still thought this name was just satisfactory. Ray's chinese name was frequently quoted as a comparison.

If you asked dad, he could tell you the long way how 阳畅历 came up and got approved finally. It is not much easier than getting a new medicine approved by FDA. Also, don't compare anything between Ray and me. We are just as different as a rooster from a boar.

as nimble as a squarrel

This morning, after sending Ray to school, Mom put Tony in his cribe for his first nap today. As usual, Tony fought a little bit for mom's attention. Mom left him in the room alone and listened him next door.

Tony kept making a little noise, as usual. Suddenly mom heard loud unusual cry. She rushed into Tony's room. Tony was standing up in his cribe. Tony certainly got scared by his first standing-up and didn't know how to handle it, other than crying for help. A few days past nine month mark, this little dude can stand up himself now.

Action item for dad this evening, lower the cribe by at least two levels.

First impression is not always right

Tony is a sensitive baby. He is not shy to show who he likes and dislikes. Burk unfortunately fell into the dislike catory. A UT graduate born in HongKong, with a super chinese name meaning "must be smart", Burk is a mild and friendly guy.We first met in neighhood Olson meadow park. He is with his wife and two boys. Tony cries once he saw Burk. Since then, whenever he saw Burk, he cries so that Burk has to cover his face when he is around.
Yesterday, Tony finally recognized Burk is not that bad. He didn't cry when Burk approached him. And surprisingly, Tony waved his hand back to Burk. That is Tony's first wave to friends.

I am like sticky rice

I am getting more social these days, which means dad or mom has to be with me all the time. Otherwise, I have my way to protest. Ray is not in charge so his presence doesn't count. Food is always welcome, which can buy dad and mom some time.
I had fun in Schiltterbahn water park. The only difference I had from Ray was Ray enjoyed more water fun but I enjoyed more sleep.

Sick boys for two days

Both Tony and Ray had a fever on Sunday. Most likely it was caused by virus as they both got it at the same time. They had Tylenol at home. Tony was such a big fan of eating, from Ray's toys to newspaper, and he even enjoyed having cherry-flavored Tylenol. Not for Ray. Mom and dad took them to hospital anyway just in case. Perfect lungs and no ear infections. Their fever went away quickly and they made the trip to Schlitterbahn water park on Tuesday. Everyone had a good time and pictures are on the way.

08/08/2008, Olympic size progress

Tony started crawling today. He pulled his little hands and pushed his chubby legs, zigzaging forward to reach a little fancy car which belongs to Ray, a bait set up by mom. Dad knew something's gonna happen today.

Finger food fun

Tony doesn't like being alone, even when he is having finger food fun. So mom can only put him in the kitchen while mom had to wash dishes. When time goes along, Tony looks more like Ray's high chair owner now.

2008年7月4日星期五

Tony 6 month old

20.5 pounds. height will be known at check-up time. Not as big as Ray at the same age. But I am more, actually far more nimble than my big fellow. One thing we had in common is that we both peed while taking our 6 month picture in studio.

The way we watch TV

Dad supports Ray and Ray supports me. That is how it works in our house.

A more experienced year

Last year, Ray's blog told a story about a bird nest in our home. Obviously the bird's memory is not very good. The bird came back this year again. Dad and mom had previous experience so they only visited their home when the owner was not at home. You could bet it didn't happen often. We missed seeing new bornx as it only took a few weeks from picture 1 to picture 2. But we are happy to see baby bird. In a week, they all flew away.

What dad and mom learned: 1). bird incubation time is short 2). A nest to birds is not necessarily a permenant home. It could be just a 'delivery room'. Good to know these.

Was the birth of TWO birds in our home a superstitional sign that mom and dad's better just have two children, Ray and me? Mom would think so. It looked like a fairly strong indication. Even the bird takes two. Dad would say it's nonsense. Birds have baby birds every year. Could you do that?

100 days celebration

Tony passed 100 day old mark. Mom and dad brought Tony and Ray to Photo Studio. The pictures are on the way. Tony is 18.5 pounds now. And dad is going to trim Tony's hair this weekend.
Now Tony started to smile a lot. He is able to grab one single big stuff with two hands. And his two hands collaborates fairly well. This is earlier than expected. Talking back (a little exaggeration, it should be muttering back) is Tony's favorite activity.
Oh, Ray started learning how to play puppet show with dad. There are going to be a lot of good shows coming for Tony.

Dad opened Pandora's box

Ray had a great Easter. He probably hunted the most egges in his age group. In the early morning, he went to the first of his two hunts with mom alone. Dad was gardening for this spring at home. After a good two hours sleep, I woke up and was ready for food. Dad called mom, but my patience couldn't last for her seven minutes back trip.
Dad need to find a way to deal with it. He figured that everybody should have a little bit joy of Easter, why not Tony. Now it is a perfect timing for Tony to have a little juice, which he never had before. When mom got home, I had about five small tea spoon Mango juice. My response to Mango juice made Dad so proud that he had to share it with mom by making a demonstration and also to show off how great his idea was.
While mom set up and breast fed me, it turned out dad made a trouble. I just couldn't take mom's milk rather than mango juice. I wanted to eat and I cried. Mom wanted to feed me and mom's milk was springing. If someday I turned out to be a great character, my determination had showed up this time. Eating choice was my right. Yeilding was definitely NO. It took more than an hour to calm me down.
That was just a little story of my first Easter.

The big boss in our house

Ray sucked his finger when he was little. Mom and dad didn't mind as books said sucking finger soothes babies. Tony likes to suck his fingers too. But now the rule is changed as we have a big boss in the house.
Yesterday, Tony was laying in his carry-seat and enjoying sucking his chubby fingers. It was a nice warm sunny afternoon. Birds were chirping in the backyard, a little breeze was gently shaking the trees. All sounds accompanying with Tony's finger sucking 'ze ze' were in perfect harmony in our quiet house. Life was good.
Ray saw it . Without a hesitation, he jumped to Tony and pulled Tony's little fingers right away from Tony's little mouth. And Ray told Tony firmly:'DON'T EAT YOUR FINGERS'. Mom didn't teach that. Dad didn't teach that. Who taught that is not important. What is important is that we got a new boss in our house. At least, he could boss Tony around.
Poor Tony!

My hair earned me a nickname

I have a lot of hair on my head. Unlike Ray, my hair seems to stay there pretty well. So I am just getting more and more that Dad is thinking about cutting some. And he also gave me a Chinese nickname '风火小雷神', as my hair all straighten up after I took a bath. I might have 50% more hair than Ray. What is the big deal?
It's a big deal if you met Fufu, a super Chinese baby girl (~19 pounds, 3.5 months old). She wore a hat all the time. If you ratio our hairs, you almost got a number of infinity.

My Chinese name was rejected

Dad's naming record is not perfect now. My Chinese name was not welcomed by many family memebers and friends. It is claimed that '安理' doesn't sound mellifluent. My brother's Chinese name was quoted as a benchmark. My name has to be as good as his.
Dad proposed a new one '安实'. It has a great meaning and sounds as fluent as the ancient great poet and reformer '王安石'. It is a good name. Hope people like it.

It was not a time at peace

Winter in Austin is supposed to be nice and warm. And it is no exception this year. But it turned out to be a harsh winter for dad and mom. First my birth brought up a lot of work to mom and dad. That's OK. They could handle it. And auntie and Ryan's family helped a lot. But the next month, grandpa passed away. He has been ill for a while. Even though we knew it's coming, it didn't make it any easier to take it.
No wonder my blog has been quiet for so long. Many years later, mom and dad wouldn't worry about if I asked them why Ray got more stuff published than I did. It's just not a time at peace.

Happy new year, everyone!

I am Anthony Heng Yang. You can call me Tony. Or you can call my nickname in Chinese, 阳阳.
Dad gave me my formal Chinese name, 阳安理, which means( 和谐于真理,或又平安顺[理]利). You can give a lot of good meanings to these two great Chinese characters. This name also has the same pronunciation in both English and Chinese. Mom got this in her way with '爱死你', nice try!
I was born on Dec. 11, 2007 with a size of 7'15'' pounds and 21 inch in Round Rock Medical Center. I have a big brother Ray and a loving mom and dad. My life just began. Happy new year!
